A comprehensive training program was done for 741 locally based safari jeep drivers in Yala National Park Block I between September – December 2023 with the objective of ensuring that park rules are followed to safeguard wildlife and to improve the visitor satisfaction.
All participants that completed the program were registered with the DWC and from 1st January 2024, only certified safari jeep drivers will be allowed to operate inside Yala Block I. The training program was sponsored by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and run by WNPS together with the DWC and coordinated by Dr. Sumith Pilapitiya.

Workshops were also held for 33 volunteer trackers from the DWC, working in Yala Block I and another event in Colombo was held for local wildlife photographers.
