Udawalawa Electric Fence

WNPS is currently working as a supporting party to the case of the proposed electric fence covering the Dahaiyagala Sanctuary. While the fence is being erected to protect the elephant corridor, farmers have petitioned on the grounds that the fence is encroaching on to their lands. While only 4 km remain to be completed of the entire project (22 km have already been fenced), farmers of the Aluthwewa village are demanding grants for the alternative lands they have been given in compensation. Court proceedings are still in process.
