A Tribute to Dr. Jane Goodall

A Tribute to Dr. Jane Goodall

The Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka (WNPS) joins the global conservation community in mourning the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall — an extraordinary scientist, visionary conservationist, and a true champion of nature. Her work transformed our understanding of the natural world and, more importantly, our place within it.

In June 2021, WNPS was privileged to host Dr. Goodall as a speaker at our Monthly Lecture series. In her characteristically gentle yet compelling manner, she reminded us that every individual has a role to play in protecting the planet. That moment continues to inspire our members, our work, and our mission to safeguard Sri Lanka’s wild heritage.

Dr. Goodall’s life was a testament to courage and persistence. From her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in Gombe to her tireless global advocacy through the Jane Goodall Institute, she taught us that true conservation is built on empathy, respect, and the power of hope. She not only changed the science of primatology but also touched millions of lives, encouraging generations to act with compassion toward all living beings.

While we grieve her passing, we also celebrate her remarkable journey. Dr. Jane Goodall lives on — in our science, in our conservation, in our collective determination to protect the green spaces and wild lives that sustain us all. Her voice will echo in every forest, every movement for wildlife, and in the hearts of
those she inspired. She lives in us.
